Thursday, August 1, 2024 by Aaron Delgado

Eduardo Jesús Pastrana Pacheco, a 25-year-old Cuban with an extensive criminal history in Miami, was arrested again on Wednesday following a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle that ended in a crash and a violent confrontation with police.

According to the police report, Pastrana led the Florida Highway Patrol on a chase Wednesday night that began on the Turnpike and concluded at SW 109th Avenue and 8th Street in Miami-Dade County while driving a stolen truck, which overturned at a Tamiami intersection.

The incident started when an officer traveling northbound on the Turnpike noticed a dark-colored truck speeding that matched the description of a vehicle reported stolen in Miami-Dade. The officer began to pursue the truck, but Pastrana accelerated and sped away even after the officer activated emergency lights and sirens, according to a report from Local 10 News.

After exiting the Turnpike onto Southwest 8th Street, Pastrana attempted to head north on 109th Avenue but collided with another car, causing his vehicle to flip over and land on its roof.

Authorities stated that Pastrana exited the overturned truck and attempted to flee, fighting officers as they tried to apprehend him. The scene was recorded by a bystander and the video was shared on the Instagram profile @lifestyle_miami.

"While attempting to detain the fleeing suspect, he resisted and physically fought against us as we brought him to the ground," the arrest report stated. "It took several police officers to handcuff the suspect. Miami-Dade detectives will take over the overall investigation due to the multiple charges against the suspect for other stolen vehicles."

It was confirmed that both the truck Pastrana was driving and the license plate were stolen.

The Cuban faces charges of grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding police, and resisting an officer with violence. He was sent to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained in custody Thursday morning with no bond set yet.

In 2021, Pastrana was imprisoned after shooting a vehicle passenger in the legs up to five times near Florida International University (FIU). He was then charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Since the age of 16, the young Cuban has amassed a lengthy criminal record in Miami, including grand theft, drug possession, and carrying weapons without a permit.
