Laura Amores: From Pizza Maker in Hialeah to Successful Cuban Entrepreneur in the USA

Friday, August 2, 2024 by Claire Jimenez

Behind the story of the Cuban native Laura Amores lies a tale of success marked by immense sacrifice, study, hard work, and persistence. When she left Cuba at 28, she never imagined she would become a successful entrepreneur in the United States with four businesses under her belt. In an interview with “Destino Tolk,” Laura shared her journey to becoming a successful woman.

In Cuba, Laura studied accounting and finance, marketing, public relations, auditing, and administration. She even completed a management course. Before emigrating with her husband and their four-year-old daughter through a family claim process initiated by her father, she worked in the accounting department of a hotel on the island.

“We arrived empty-handed,” she recalls, reflecting on her early days in Miami in 2014 when she started working at a pizzeria in Hialeah. She later moved on to work as a sales representative for a company dealing with truck parts and components.

The first few years were extremely challenging. Laura and her husband barely saw each other due to their work schedules. Her father took care of their daughter so that Laura could study after work.

Laura and her partner decided to take a leap of faith and start their own accounting and tax business. In the first year, she only handled the taxes for herself, her husband, and her father. By the second year, relatives and friends began to trust her, and the business started to grow. During the pandemic, they had enough clients to open an office.

“No business starts out at the top; everything has to begin from scratch,” she asserts from her own experience. “I am proud of myself,” she adds, and rightfully so. In addition to her tax business, she now owns a beauty treatment company, a home healthcare service for seniors that is expanding, and a clinical laboratory.

Laura Amores’ ambitions don't stop there. She aims to continue growing and inspiring others to embark on entrepreneurial ventures, demonstrating that growth is possible as long as one fights for it.
