Tropical Storm Debby made waves in the southern United States, bringing ashore a load of cocaine discovered by a good Samaritan who promptly turned it over to authorities. Debby "washed 25 packages of cocaine (70 pounds) onto a beach in the Florida Keys," reported Samuel Briggs II, acting chief of the U.S. Border Patrol in the Miami Sector, on social media platform X.

The U.S. official commended the individual who "found the drugs and immediately contacted the authorities." He further stated that "the U.S. Border Patrol confiscated the drugs, which have a street value exceeding one million dollars." Briggs did not disclose the specific beach where the drugs were found, and the origin of the cocaine remains unclear, according to Local 10 News.

Tropical Storm Debby is now moving away from Florida, leaving behind significant flooding and at least four fatalities as it heads towards Georgia and South Carolina. Among the deceased is a 64-year-old truck driver who died on Interstate 75 in the Tampa area after losing control of his trailer truck, which overturned on a concrete wall and dangled over the edge before the cab plunged into the water.

Another victim was a 13-year-old boy who died when a tree fell on a mobile home southwest of Gainesville, according to the Levy County Sheriff's Office. Additionally, a 38-year-old woman and a 12-year-old child perished in a car accident on wet roads in Dixie County.

The threat of flooding looms over cities like Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, warned the National Hurricane Center. Up to 18 inches (46 centimeters) of rainfall are expected in central and northern Florida.
