Animal welfare advocates have issued an urgent plea for help this Monday for a cat suffering from severe facial injuries, spotted on a street in Havana. Dianeya Pérez reported in the Facebook group “Animal Protection Society in Cuba” that the feline was located in Lawton, “on Gertrudis Street between Segunda and Primera.”

“Can any animal lover help?” Pérez asked, noting she couldn't take the cat in due to having two dogs. In the comments section, many speculated that the cat's facial injuries might have resulted from a fight with a dog or an accident. Most agreed that the feline needed immediate assistance and shared the post to save the animal's life.

Someone named Sarwin PapaGato suggested the cat might be suffering from squamous cell carcinoma, stating, “If that's the case, it is incurable.”

Lack of Government Action on Animal Protection

Due to the inaction of the Cuban regime in protecting animals, activists often take on the responsibility of caring for pets and advocating for their rights. Last Friday, a puppy was abandoned on a corner in the Playa municipality of Havana with a sign requesting help for its care. A Facebook post indicated that the puppy was found at the corner of 5th B and 116, with a sign stating that the animal had diarrhea and couldn't drink milk.

Recently, Cuban animal advocate Yenney Caballero celebrated the successful surgery of Simbad, a puppy suffering from a bone fracture that prevented him from walking. The activist expressed on Facebook: “We did it again, and I am happy. As a team, we save many lives.” Days earlier, she had requested help to raise 18,000 pesos needed for the puppy's surgery.
