Proud Cuban in Texas Defends His 'Transportation': "It's Mine and I Owe No One"

Wednesday, August 7, 2024 by Emma Garcia

In a TikTok video that has sparked intense debate, Cuban user Elieser (@eliesersagitar), who resides in Texas, responded to a negative comment about his transportation. In his video, Elieser showcased his 2005 Toyota Camry, affectionately named "Palmiche," passionately defending his choice to own a car, even if it's not brand new.

"If you're someone who doesn't have a new car, stay because this video is for you," he began. The content creator explained that although his car lacked the latest technologies, it allowed him to work, pay his bills, and live without the worry of debt. "This little car takes me to work every day, lets me get food, and pay my bills," he pointed out.

He emphasized that despite the criticisms, his "Palmiche" offered him a peace of mind that many with new, financed cars did not have. "It's mine and I owe no one," he said proudly, arguing that he preferred having an older but fully owned car rather than a new one with constant payment worries.

"In Cuba, I could barely ride a horse, and I only got a bicycle after working for 10 years. Here, I got this little car with a lot of effort," Elieser concluded, summarizing the pride and effort behind his "Palmiche."

The reactions to the video have garnered nearly a thousand comments and over 4,000 likes. "Criticize me all you want, but I spent 30 years of my life dreaming of coming to the USA and enjoying everything I could. I'm not going to live forever; one day I'm going to die, so I want a new car and a new phone," said one user. Another commented, "You're talking about a used car like a Toyota or Honda, which are reliable cars. But if you buy a Ford, Chevrolet, or another American brand, you're guaranteed to have a thousand problems."

Others shared their own experiences: "I have two cars, one for my wife and one for me, and honestly, I'm fed up. With what I spend on parts, I could pay for a new one," said one user. "This guy made my day," another added. "A financed car is like it breaks down every month," said another. "People don't understand that a car is just to get from point A to point B," one user agreed. "I also have a car paid in cash, and I agree with you," said another. "You’re totally right, but I prefer to pay for my truck and sleep with the worry of payments, but it takes me wherever I want," commented another. "I have a 2010 Toyota Yaris, I've customized it my way, and every day I drive from SW to Hialeah on the Palmetto. It's still going strong, and I'll get rid of it the day it breaks down," shared another user. "I totally agree with you," concluded another.
