'Dad' was and is the engine of all this. Just imagine, my grandfather didn't want to come at his age and being sick with cancer. He didn't want to come. But he knew that if he didn't come, my family wouldn't come. He sacrificed himself because he knew this was the opportunity for my entire family to leave Cuba. He was aware, and my immediate family knows, that if he didn't come... they wouldn’t have allowed us to leave," he recounted at that time.
