As the birthday of the dictator Fidel Castro approaches, the Cuban regime found it fitting to continue indoctrinating children with admiration for the leader of the so-called Cuban Revolution. In this effort, the "continuity" that inherited the totalitarian power forged by Castro reopened the doors of the Centro Fidel Castro Ruz to young children, providing them with a museum workshop centered on the dictator's legacy.
This Thursday, dozens of children from Havana played the role of museum guides for visitors, most of whom were the children's parents. "Good morning. I am Vanessa, your museologist for today. This is the 'Word Room.' Here, you can see photos of our commander accompanied by various words," said a girl of barely ten years old.
"Here we can see photos of Fidel with journalists and magazines about Fidel," explained another child, who barely reached the height of the display case. "Here we observe the GAZ-69 jeep used by Fidel," stated a solemn girl who, along with two others, showed the visitors the vehicle in question.
According to the Cuban National Television News report, the summer museum workshop is attended by 39 children aged 6 to 14 and has been ongoing since July 8th to "delve into the life of museums, particularly the values, work, and history of the historic leader of the Cuban revolution."
"You can see the gratitude of the public in their applause, but also in the affection they show [to the children] when they leave the rooms, for being able to imbue them with the commander's imprint, of what they have learned in the workshop. These are very young children, some haven't even taken Cuban history in the education system yet, and still, they express from the heart, from the depths of their thoughts, how they feel about Fidel," said Elianet Espinosa Chávez, a museology specialist at the Fidel Castro Center.
Besides indoctrination, the children also participate in other craft workshops thanks to the international collaboration of the Catalan NGO Alkaria, explained its president Xavier Barreda Cortiella. The organization is linked to the Catalan Coordinator of Solidarity 'Defensem Cuba'.
According to the official Cuban press, "these attractive proposals make the institution a community meeting point and allow new generations to get closer to the figure of Fidel Castro."
"Well, I've been coming for about a month now. They brought me because I would like to be a museologist when I grow up and want to learn more about history and what Fidel did," said another girl interviewed for television.
"He was a very brave, compassionate man who fought for Cuba's freedom," summarized another. "Fidel has done many things for Cuba, but the most important was saving it," concluded a little girl who hasn't studied Cuban history yet but already knows the narrative the regime wants to instill in her mind.
