A passenger aircraft with 62 people on board crashed on Friday afternoon in a municipality in São Paulo, Brazil, while attempting to reach Guarulhos Airport.

Videos recorded by residents captured the moment the plane lost control and spiraled to the ground early Friday afternoon in the Capela neighborhood of Vinhedo. Other footage shows the aircraft exploding upon impact, very close to a residential area. The plane was destroyed and engulfed in flames.

The aircraft was carrying 58 passengers and four crew members, according to OGlobo. The Military Police reported receiving an emergency call at 1:28 PM on João Edueta Street, near Miguel Melhado de Campos Avenue (SP-324). Currently, seven rescue and salvage teams are involved, as stated by the Brazilian Fire Department in a social media post. Police teams quickly headed to the crash site, but no further details have been disclosed. It remains unknown if there are any survivors at this time.

Preliminary information indicates that the aircraft was a twin-engine passenger plane, model ATR-72, which departed from Cascavel, Paraná, destined for Guarulhos Airport, São Paulo.
