Cuban athletes Jordan Díaz, Pedro Pichardo, and Andy Díaz claimed gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively this Friday in Paris, representing Spain, Portugal, and Italy in the triple jump final. In a twist of irony, the representative from the Caribbean island, Lázaro Martínez, ended up without any medals.

The four Cuban athletes had advanced to the men's triple jump final of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Wednesday. As anticipated, the standout performances came from favorites Pedro Pablo Pichardo and Jordan Díaz, who represent Portugal and Spain, respectively. However, on Friday, the 23-year-old Jordan Díaz dethroned the reigning Olympic champion Pichardo with a jump of 17.86 meters, narrowly edging out Pichardo's 17.84 meters. Andy Díaz secured the bronze with a jump of 17.64 meters. Martínez, the sole competitor representing Cuba, finished in the eighth position with a jump of 17.34 meters.

The winners are part of a group of 21 Cuban athletes competing in Paris 2024 under different flags, amidst the ongoing crisis in Cuban sports.
