Cuban Man Seeks Help to Identify Hit-and-Run Teens After Hialeah Accident

Sunday, August 11, 2024 by Oscar Guevara

A Cuban resident in the city of Hialeah has turned to the media to publicize an accident he suffered last December, for which the police have yet to apprehend the teens who hit his car and fled the scene.

The incident occurred on December 13, 2023, at the intersection of 1st East Avenue and NW 54 ST in Hialeah, as reported by AmericaTeVe. The Cuban man, named Dionald del Río, was on his way home from work when he was struck by a car driven by three teenagers. In a video shared by the source, the teens can be seen fleeing the scene, abandoning their vehicle.

"When I got to 1st, a car ran the light, it was stolen and hit me. It nearly killed me, and then they fled, taking several items and leaving me for dead," Del Río stated.

Del Río expressed gratitude to the bystanders who witnessed and recorded the incident, as their footage served as crucial evidence for his case.

"The people who were there, the witnesses who filmed everything, told my wife they had videos of the teens running away and they served as witnesses for the police," he added.

Del Río's vehicle was beyond repair. "The car insurance wanted to contact the police because they said the car that hit me was stolen and the license plate was stolen too, so they have no one to claim against," he explained, though he noted that his medical expenses were covered.

The man is awaiting surgery and suffers from injuries to his legs and other parts of his body.

"I feel bad because since I came to this country, I have always worked. The same thing that happened to me could happen to another family. I have my wife and children. Imagine if something had happened to me. Today, my wife wouldn't even know who killed me," he lamented, urging the police to expedite their investigation.

AmericaTeVe has requested that anyone who recognizes the teens involved contact authorities via the Crime Stoppers hotline.
