In Miami, violent crimes have decreased, according to a preliminary report from the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) in the United States, which covers data from the first six months of the current year. Miami, along with Washington D.C., has seen significant reductions of up to 29% in violent crimes, although the report notes that homicides have increased.

The report, compiled by the Department of Justice, indicates that in the first half of the year, violent crime rates dropped by 6% in 69 cities across the country. This category includes homicides, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults. The report suggests this is a decrease compared to the same period last year.

Among the cities with the most significant reductions in violent crimes are Columbus, Ohio, with a 41% decrease, and Omaha, Nebraska, with a 30% reduction. Miami and Washington D.C. follow closely behind, according to the report cited by the Efe agency.

On the other hand, homicides have decreased most rapidly in Boston with a 78% reduction and in Philadelphia with a 42% decrease, according to MCCA statistics, which do not include data from New York City.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland praised these figures as part of a strategy spearheaded by his department. “But our message remains clear: we will not rest until all people and all communities are safe from violent crime,” stated the official.

The campaign office of Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris referenced this report, highlighting "historic declines" in national crime rates, with the homicide rate "on track to experience the largest decrease on record," according to Efe. Meanwhile, the campaign of former President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly blamed the surge in criminal activity on the Joe Biden administration, stated that "violent crimes are still very high compared to 2019 under President Trump."
