Fabio Lamar V., the suspect accused of repeatedly stabbing Cuban teenager Yenifer Gómez, was apprehended on Tuesday evening at his aunt's residence in San Juan, Santiago de Cuba.

The young girl is currently in critical condition at the Dr. Antonio María Béguez César Children's Hospital, colloquially known as "La Colonia," after being stabbed multiple times by her ex-boyfriend earlier that morning at the house she shared with her grandmother in the Nuevo Vista Alegre neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba.

Following the attack, Lamar fled the scene, as reported by local journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook. According to Mayeta, the suspect was located shortly after 6:00 pm thanks to the cooperation of neighbors of Lamar's aunt, named Luisa, who alerted authorities to his whereabouts.

"Hello Yosmany, I am a neighbor from the San Juan neighborhood near the Baseball Academy Entrance, and the young man who stabbed the minor is hiding here right now," an anonymous source informed the reporter. Shortly after, Mayeta confirmed that the man "was captured minutes ago at his aunt Luisa's residence in San Juan."

Yenifer, affectionately known as Yeni to her friends and family, has suffered multiple cardiac arrests since the incident, further complicating her already fragile health condition. Pediatricians attending to her have confirmed that her state is extremely grave and remains under guarded prognosis.

"She arrived in cardiac arrest, but we managed to revive her, and she is now undergoing surgery. Her health is very delicate," a hospital worker told Mayeta, who has been closely following the case.

A patrol car remained stationed outside the hospital while the suspect was still on the run.

Last year in Cuba, 110 people were tried for femicide—a term the island's authorities refuse to use—378 cases of sexual violence were reported in 2023, and several women were left injured after attacks by their former partners.
