A 31-year-old Cuban woman, who is 33 weeks pregnant, is showing promising recovery following a complex surgical procedure at the Lucía Íñiguez Clinical-Surgical Hospital in Holguín. She suffered a distal femur C3 fracture due to a car accident earlier this week.

According to local publication Ahora, specialists from the aforementioned hospital and the Vladimir I. Lenin General Hospital conducted the surgery. The procedure lasted an hour and a half and involved the placement of external fixators.

The pregnant patient, whose identity has not been disclosed by the state-run website, was at high risk. However, the multidisciplinary intervention proceeded without any negative incidents.

"In this highly complex surgical operation due to the advanced pregnancy of the young woman, orthopedic surgeons Eranio Henríquez Ruiz and Víctor Cruz Velázquez, along with anesthesiologist Aidan Pérez and Dr. Ibrahín Carmenate Leyva, among others, participated," the report stated.

Experts in neonatology, gynecology, intensive care, and cardiology monitored the procedure continuously.

The Facebook page of the Lenin Hospital posted photos of the operation, calling it a "feat" and expressing "satisfaction with a job well done." In contrast, the Lucía Íñiguez Hospital's social media page used ideological rhetoric, stating that the success of the operation "will not only be a milestone for the city but also a testament to the strength and resilience of its people, particularly in the field of medical care," and a sign that "Holguín is moving determinedly toward the future, with an eye on hosting the July 26 celebrations in 2025."
