Lisette Ríos Lozano, the director of the Fototeca of Cuba, passed away this Sunday afternoon in Havana at the age of 54. The cause of death was not disclosed by the National Council of Plastic Arts (CNAP), the institution that announced her passing.

"The CNAP staff deeply regrets the passing this afternoon of the Director of the Fototeca of Cuba, Lisette Ríos Lozano. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, colleagues, and friends," the council wrote in a Facebook post.

Ríos Lozano assumed her role at the helm of the main institution responsible for acquiring, organizing, preserving, and cataloging photographs in Cuba in 2020. She described herself as a "conservator of photographic collections and responsible for the Photo Archive of the Fototeca of Cuba," according to the site Arte Informado.

She defined her interest in photography "in all its facets and styles," adding that she conducted research "based on the institution's collections and private collections, which has allowed me to curate various themes, working with both historical images and contemporary photographers." She also expressed a fascination with "ancient processes, which is why I follow the works of alternative photography."
