Residents of a neighborhood in Santiago de Cuba have reported enduring a 16-hour power outage due to a short circuit, while the Electric Company, despite promising quicker response times with new vehicles, has failed to resolve the issue.

Journalist Yosmany Mayeta shared on Facebook this Monday that some residents of the Altamira neighborhood had been without electricity since the previous day, following a short circuit that occurred at 5 PM.

The complainant explained that they contacted the Electric Company immediately, yet 16 hours later, the problem remained unsolved.

Unfulfilled Promises from the Electric Company

Recently, the Electric Company in Santiago de Cuba held a political event to celebrate the arrival of new vehicles aimed at reducing response times to power outages. However, this promise has not been fulfilled, as incident reports continue to pile up without timely solutions.

"The complaints and posts on their page indicate more than 12 hours of incident reports," noted Mayeta.

The journalist also highlighted another unresolved issue. In a separate incident, a power pole along with a transformer fell on Caney Road, near the cabaret, affecting several families.

A young woman who reported the issue warned that the Electric Company had not addressed the problem: "Everything remains the same, and the situation has worsened as only the cables are holding up the pole."

In July, another power pole fell in the city of Santiago de Cuba. The delay in resolving the issue by the Electric Company led residents to question the regime's preparedness to handle the rains and winds brought by hurricanes during the current cyclone season.

Journalist Mayeta posted on Facebook about an incident on Segunda de Sorribe Street, between Cuabitas and Patricio Lumumba, criticizing the local government's inaction, which endangers the population as the street remains open to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

In April, a group of houses in the Altamira neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba were left without power for several hours after some cables caught fire, highlighting the deplorable state of the electrical infrastructure.

Moreover, the Electric Company's delayed response to the problem showcased the entity's poor management.
