A 36-year-old Cuban man was murdered last Saturday at a party in the town of Chile, within the municipality of San Luis, Santiago de Cuba. The victim, identified as Luis Ángel García Torres, was struck "twice with a machete from behind while dancing with his wife," reported Yordan Roque Álvarez, administrator of the Facebook group "Revolico San Luis."
According to the source, the assailant identified himself as the son of Cheo Morales, from the Morales family in that area. The attack allegedly stemmed from a previous altercation.
The news was confirmed by several locals and acquaintances of Luis Ángel, who expressed deep sorrow for his death. He was reportedly a father as well.
"I am receiving this news with tremendous pain and a broken heart because not only was he a friend, but he was one of the best students I had. Rest in peace, Luisito," wrote one commenter.
"Luisito, may God have you in His glory. The town of Chile will remember you forever," another user added.
"You didn't deserve to die like this. Cuba needs to take a hard stance against all the crimes being committed. How long will families have to mourn because of the violence? Let the full weight of the law fall on that murderer," another user demanded.
A relative of the deceased lamented not being able to meet before receiving the tragic news of his murder.
"My cousin, so much time without seeing each other, and now this sad news. How much sadness, my cousin. May God have you in His kingdom," she said.
A school friend of Luis Ángel also expressed her sorrow: "Rest in peace, Luis, my schoolmate. Such a great pain to hear this tragic news. My deepest condolences to your mother, sisters, and entire family."
Days after the incident, there has been no official statement from local authorities or the police regarding whether the murderer has been apprehended.
