Friday, August 23, 2024 by Isabella Rojas

A 30-year-old Cuban resident of Hialeah fatally attacked his mother and stabbed his grandmother and 17-year-old sister before being shot by the police. The assailant, identified as Alex González, had a history of some form of psychiatric disorder that has not been specified by authorities.

The fatal victim was Alex's mother, Madeline González, who tragically would have turned 50 years old the day after the incident. The other two injured women are the grandmother, Rosa González, and the sister, Amanda González, who is only 17 years old.

The Hialeah Police Department report, disclosed by local media, reveals that officers responded to an emergency call regarding a domestic dispute at approximately 4:25 a.m. on Wednesday at the address 4265 West 5th Court. Upon arrival, officers found a stabbed victim outside the house. Inside the residence, they discovered two more stabbed women and the armed suspect.

As officers attempted to aid the victims, a confrontation with the suspect ensued, leading officers to discharge their weapons, according to authorities. “He had a knife in his hand and then lunged at the officers, who had to shoot him to defend themselves, resulting in his death,” explained Steadman Stahl of the Police Benevolent Association.

The two injured women were transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Both survived surgeries and are in stable condition.

Mayke González, the brother of the deceased woman, expressed his shock over the tragedy that has struck his family. “I had to tell my mom that her daughter had died and had to tell my niece that her mom had died. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but I had to be strong and let them know,” González told Telemundo 51.

“When I arrived there at 4:45 in the morning, I thought I would find something normal, that the police were there for something domestic, maybe shouting or something like that. But when the police told me they had taken them to Jackson Memorial Hospital at three, I knew it was something very serious,” González added. “Both are alive by a miracle, but they are alive and will be okay. They both know they need to be strong for each other because now it’s a grandmother and a granddaughter together,” he concluded.

The shooting involving the officers is now under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), as protocol dictates in such cases.
