Friday, August 23, 2024 by Charlotte Gomez

A young Cuban man is reaching out for help for a family that lost everything in a fire that engulfed their home in the Mantilla neighborhood, located in the Arroyo Naranjo municipality of Havana.

Héctor Luis Lemus shared the heart-wrenching story of Adam and Yudith, a mother and son who are now homeless after their residence was completely destroyed by flames. "I'm making this announcement to see if we can help this family in Mantilla, right in front of my house. Today it was my brother, my friend, my life, my everything, with his mom, but tomorrow it could be someone else," he said.

"I want you to share this and, if you can help, please do so. They lost absolutely everything in an unprecedented fire that happened in an instant," he added.

Héctor Luis, who lives in Miami, has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for this family in Mantilla, whose house and all their belongings were reduced to ashes. At the time of writing, $405 had been raised out of a $10,000 goal.

The fire that consumed Yudit and Adam's home on República Street, between Julio Sánchez and Tamarindo, was massive, with thick smoke and flames visible from various points in the capital neighborhood.

A local resident confirmed that four fire trucks responded quickly to the scene and, thanks to their efforts, the fire did not spread to other houses despite its ferocity.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown, although several internet users have debunked the rumor that it was caused by an electric scooter explosion.
