The mother of a young girl found alone on a street in Havana last Friday assures the public that she never abandoned her child. Yohana Charon shared a message on her Facebook account revealing that her daughter is now back with her and asking people to stop spreading misinformation online about the child being abandoned.
"She has a mother and father who are here for her. What happened was that I suffer from epileptic seizures. I was walking with my daughter on Acosta Street when I had a convulsion, and my frightened daughter ran away from me. Stop saying I left her abandoned without knowing what really happened," she explained.
"Right now, thanks to God, my daughter is here with us, her family. Please, stop with the comments and posts saying I abandoned her; share my words so they go viral," she added.
Last Friday, internet user Zairy Rodrigues shared a photo of a young girl on her Facebook wall, claiming the child had been abandoned. She did not specify where she found the girl but noted that she had taken her into her home and was seeking help to identify her family.
"The parents of this little girl had the indecency to leave her abandoned. At the moment, she is in my home. Please, if anyone knows her and can provide her information and address, I would appreciate it," Rodrigues wrote in her initial post.
In a follow-up post, Rodrigues updated that the child had been taken to the Police Station on Aguilera Street in the Lawton neighborhood of Diez de Octubre municipality.
"We have handed this little angel over to the authorities. Please share so that a responsible family member can come forward to take care of her," she wrote.
