A friend of Kiara González Bermúdez clarified on Saturday afternoon that the body of the woman found in a garbage bin in Old Havana on Friday does not belong to her.

"Kiara González Bermúdez is not the body found in the trash in Old Havana," wrote Alfredo Rodríguez Ramírez on his Facebook profile. However, he did confirm that she is missing. “A report has already been filed, but if anyone sees her, please call me at 54324610. I’m leaving my contact information here,” Rodríguez Ramírez added in an attempt to stop the rumors about Kiara's supposed death.

He described the young woman as 23 years old, light-skinned with clear eyes, brown hair (usually worn curly), of medium height, and having a slim build that he described as "very beautiful." She also has "many tattoos."

Initial Misidentification by Reporter

Initially, crime reporter Niover Licea made public the supposed identity of the victim in a live broadcast on his social media, claiming that "Kiara is another victim of the gender-based violence that is plaguing the Caribbean nation."

However, in a subsequent video, he corrected himself, stating that it was not Kiara's body that had been found.

On Friday, the independent portal CubaNet reported that the dismembered body of a woman had been found in a garbage bin located on Habana Street between Luz and Acosta in the Old Havana municipality.

A video shared on Facebook showed an ambulance, police officers, and other members of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) at the scene. In the comments section of the post, local residents claimed that the victim had been dismembered and was missing limbs (arms).

The police cordoned off the area, restricted access to pedestrians, and prohibited the use of cell phones in the block. They then began their investigation, which included the use of canine units.
