Edesio Alejandro Hospitalized in Madrid Due to Severe Spinal Tumor from Advanced Cancer

The renowned Cuban musician and composer Edesio Alejandro is in critical condition in Madrid due to a spinal tumor, a complication arising from his four-year battle with prostate cancer. According to a close source revealed to the independent portal CubaNet, he is undergoing treatment for the disease, but doctors have informed his family of "advanced metastasis."

"Edesio is aware of the stage of his cancer, but he is fighting with optimism and receiving the best possible care," said a friend.

The actor, singer, and music promoter known as Miguel Elkubanisimo has launched a GoFundMe account to raise funds for an alternative treatment that could help him and lasts between one to two years. The cost amounts to 36,000 euros.

"We are not going to wait to have the complete budget to start. Every small contribution counts and will allow us to acquire the necessary medications and products for Edesio to begin his treatment as soon as possible," stated Elkubanisimo.

Idolka de Erbiti Sánchez, the musician's wife, noted that they have made progress with radiation therapy. "Chemotherapy sessions will start in September, one session every two weeks," she emphasized.

Edesio himself took advantage of the fundraising campaign to provide details about his health status and thank everyone for their prayers for his recovery.

"I am hospitalized in a sanatorium in Madrid. Although cancer has not defeated me, we are in a very close fight, and things are not going well. I am in the sanatorium because the disease is causing a lot of pain, and we will stay here until God decides," he expressed.

The prestigious 66-year-old arranger and composer explained that they found an alternative medicine with the products of 4Life Research, which, according to their research, shows very good results.

"Unfortunately, we cannot afford this treatment as it is expensive and has a long duration, approximately one to two years. Thanks to a dear friend and artist, Miguel Elkubanisimo, his family, and Dr. Dayami Tantanini, we have secured the first month of treatment," he remarked.

Edesio, who holds Spanish citizenship, has been in Madrid since late 2021 because he could not receive medical treatment in Cuba due to the ongoing health crisis on the island.

"I came because I have been living with prostate cancer for four years. In recent times, the medicine that controls this cancer ran out in Cuba [...]. So I have to be here; I have no other choice. If I want to live, I have to be here," he disclosed to Diario de Cuba in March.

Thanks to Spanish medicine, he has been able to treat the disease despite its advanced stage. Although he faces financial difficulties and lacks expected support in Spain, he remains hopeful for recovery.

His story is yet another example of the shortcomings of the Cuban healthcare system. Even recognized artists like him suffer from a lack of medicines and supplies.

"We go through the same situations that all Cubans go through. (...) Medications have been running out until the situation is really chaotic at the moment. Medicines that were manufactured in Cuba are no longer produced," he lamented.

"I was actually treated by the best doctors. The problem is that it goes beyond the doctor. Sometimes, there isn't even the reagent to do the analysis," he complained.
