As days pass, more details are coming to light about the massacre that occurred on Saturday in the town of Ceballos, where two mothers and their young children were brutally murdered, shocking all of Cuba. On Sunday, it was revealed that two young brothers have been arrested as the alleged perpetrators of the crime. The suspects, identified as Luis Enrique and Leudys Romero Daudinot, worked in the area and are believed to have entered one of the families' homes to commit robbery.

Activist Lara Crofs disclosed on her Facebook profile that the detainees, both 26 years old (they are twins), lived in the same Ceballos neighborhood, just a block away from where the crime took place. "They are from the 26 de julio neighborhood," she specified. "Leudys works as a cook at a school and during his off-hours, he helped the father of the murdered child on a farm. The other brother, Luis Enrique, was in jail at Canaleta for five months awaiting trial," she detailed.

"Leudys was found with a million CUP, clothes belonging to the three-year-old child that he had stolen for his own similarly aged son, and his blood-stained clothes," Crofs added. According to her post, the people of Ceballos gathered for hours in front of the police station, demanding that the brothers be handed over to them for vigilante justice. "The police prohibited filming and taking photos under threat," she added.

The initial information about the brothers, provided by the independent portal CubaNet, mentioned the Romero Daudinot brothers and a third young man named Esney Fonseca. On Monday, communicator Niover Licea, known on social media as "Nio reporting a crime," shared a video on Instagram in which Esney denied any involvement in the crime.

Official Media Response

Faced with the shock caused by the quadruple murder in Ceballos, the official press, which usually ignores cases of murders and other serious crimes, was forced to respond. The weekly Invasor shared a brief editorial revealing the names and ages of the victims.

"Among the deceased is Richard Dariel Núñez, a four-year-old child. The other victims are named Lester Rivadeneira Rodríguez, a 17-year-old youth; Yamila Reyes Tamayo, 29; and Raysa Rodríguez Pérez de Corcho, 50," the editorial detailed. Although the newspaper did not specify the familial relationships of the victims, it was confirmed that they were from two families. Yamila Reyes (29) was the mother of young Richard Dariel, and Raysa Rodríguez (50) was the mother of teenager Lester Rivadeneira.

According to a neighbor, the incident occurred between 6:00 and 7:00 am on Saturday, after the father of the four-year-old had left for work on his farm. "Apparently, they broke in to steal money the man had from some sales," the source, who wished to remain anonymous, said. Raysa and her son Lester were next door and, upon hearing their neighbors' screams, rushed to help and were also killed.

Everything happened in the "old bakery" neighborhood of Ceballos. The neighbor mentioned that the robbers were hiding in an abandoned house across from Yamila and her husband's home.
