Young Cuban Man Falsely Accused in Ceballos Murder Speaks Out

Monday, August 26, 2024 by Daniel Vasquez

The Cuban Esney Fonseca Sánchez, initially identified as a suspect in the brutal murder of four individuals last Saturday in Ceballos, Ciego de Ávila province, has denied any involvement in the quadruple homicide. There were even rumors that he had committed suicide.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I am supposedly the guy they said was hanged. I want to extend my condolences to the families of the deceased," Fonseca Sánchez stated. He requested that people help dispel the rumors and false accusations circulating about him in various groups. "I have nothing to do with this," he said regarding the heinous crime.

"I would be incapable of doing that to two women and two innocent children. I don't have the heart to do something like that. It hurts, but I assure you that I don't have the heart to do something like that," he concluded.

Idalmis Sánchez Fonseca, the young man's mother, called the information about her son a "slander," which was initially spread on social media by crime reporter Niover Licea.

"Please, I am calling on everyone to share this post to counter the slander against my son, Esney Fonseca Sánchez, spread by a malicious individual who uploaded a video claiming my son had taken his life because he was the alleged murderer of those innocent people," the woman denounced.

"But God's law does not tolerate deceit. They have already caught the murderers, and I hope with all my heart that the full weight of the law falls on those wretches," she added, referring to the two brothers who have been arrested as the primary suspects in the heinous crime. Niover Licea himself later retracted his initial report mentioning the alleged suicide of Esney Fonseca Sánchez.

Details of the Horrific Crime

On the morning of August 24, two women and their two children, one of them just four years old, were brutally murdered. The incident occurred between 6:00 and 7:00 am in the "old bakery" neighborhood of Ceballos, after the father of the four-year-old had left for work on his farm.

The alleged murderers, a pair of twin brothers aged 26 and identified as Luis Enrique and Leudys Romero Daudinot, entered the home where Yamila Reyes Tamayo (29 years old) and her son Richard Dariel Núñez (4 years old) were, looking for a sum of money reportedly amounting to one million pesos.

A neighbor and her teenage son—identified as Raysa Rodríguez (50 years old) and Lester Rivadeneira Rodríguez (17)—heard the commotion from the other house and went to help, only to be murdered as well. The incident has deeply shocked the Cuban community, which finds it hard to believe the level of violence involved.

Regarding the suspects, it has recently been revealed that Leudys worked as a cook in a school and assisted the father of the murdered child on the farm during his off hours. The police recovered one million pesos, clothing from the three-year-old child that Leudys had stolen for his own child of a similar age, and his blood-stained clothes, according to activist Lara Crofs.

The other brother, Luis Enrique, had been in Canaleta prison for five months awaiting trial, Crofs detailed. Given the uproar caused by the quadruple murder, the state-controlled media, which usually ignores cases of murders and other serious crimes, had no choice but to address the issue.
