A Cuban resident of Miami Gardens has been arrested for biting and assaulting his ex-wife and attempting to kill her daughter in their home. The incident occurred last Wednesday night when Luis Damas, 64, went to the apartment of his ex-wife, with whom he had been married for 13 years before separating six months ago.
According to the arrest report accessed by Local 10, Damas knocked on the door, and his ex-wife told him she was with a friend and would speak to him later. At 10:00 PM, they encountered each other in the hallway while the friend was taking the elevator. After the friend left, Damas began arguing with the victim, asking about her stepdaughter, claiming "she was the reason they couldn't be together." He then pushed her into the apartment, pulled out a gun, and threatened to kill her.
Damas proceeded to enter a room where the stepdaughter was hiding under a mattress. He said, "I'm going to kill you," and fired a shot but missed. Both women then struggled with him to disarm him. Damas began biting his ex-wife all over her body. She defended herself by hitting him with a wine bottle, pleading for him to stop and calm down so they could talk.
The man ceased biting but held onto the stepdaughter by her hair while she was sitting on the couch, not allowing her to leave, according to the report. Sitting with the gun under his thigh, he demanded that his ex-wife help "clean the scene," forcing her to sweep, mop the floor, and collect all evidence into a blue trash bag.
He further threatened them with having hitmen kill them if they reported him to the police. The mother and daughter reported him the next day and went to Jackson Memorial Hospital for their injuries.
Luis Damas was arrested at his home on Friday and was transferred without bail to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) in Miami-Dade on Monday. He faces two charges of armed robbery with assault or battery, false imprisonment with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a firearm, and additional charges of attempted evidence tampering and aggravated assault, totaling nine felonies.
