Worker Burned in Cienfuegos Cement Factory Accident Discharged from Hospital

One of the five workers injured in Tuesday's accident at the Cienfuegos Cement Factory S.A. was discharged from the hospital this Wednesday afternoon, as expected. Alexei Aguilar Valdes, 53, who sustained burns on 5% of his body, was able to return home after receiving treatment at the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguia Lima General University Hospital in Cienfuegos.

The remaining four workers are still hospitalized in the burn unit of the health institution. According to Pavel Noa, the provincial health director, who spoke to the local television station Perlavisión, all patients are hemodynamically stable, without hypovolemic shock, with preserved diuresis, and without fever. They are currently undergoing treatment.

Details of the Injured Workers

The injured workers are:

• Dionel Figueroa Calunga, 52, with 70% burns, listed as critically extreme.
• Francisco Díaz Urquiza, 60, with 24% burns, reported as very serious.
• Hermes Rojas Campos, 52, with 24% burns, listed as serious.
• Carlos Aguilar Sabina, 33, with 12% burns, reported as less serious.

In addition to the five injured, the severe incident resulted in one fatality. The deceased was identified as Raimundo Narciso Sarría Lavín, 61, who worked as an electrician at the Engineering Construction Company No. 6 (Ecoing-6). The official newspaper Granma reported that he died due to a spill of materials in one of the factory's hoppers.

The causes of the accident at Cementos Cienfuegos S.A. are still under investigation by the authorities.
