A recent study conducted by Preply, an online tutoring platform, has crowned Miami as the rudest city in the United States, surpassing 46 other metropolitan areas evaluated. The study surveyed Miami residents about the frequency and types of rude behaviors they witness in their daily lives. The Sunshine City scored a 9.88 and stands out for the prevalence of socially unacceptable behaviors.

Among the most highlighted behaviors are a lack of self-awareness, such as talking loudly on the phone in shared spaces, and rudeness toward service staff. Additionally, Miamians are often accused of not respecting personal space, being noisy in public, not allowing other vehicles to merge in front of them while driving, and not showing kindness towards strangers.

Specifically, residents pinpoint downtown Miami and the Brickell area as the places where these behaviors are most noticeable. A whopping 90% of respondents believe that people living in these areas are less friendly compared to those residing in Hialeah or Miami Lakes. Moreover, 54% argue that native Miamians are ruder than newcomers to the city.

This study places Miami ahead of other cities such as Philadelphia, Tampa, and Louisville in the rudeness ranking. In contrast, the cities of Omaha, Minneapolis, and San Diego were recognized for having the most courteous residents in the entire country.

The research also highlights that, while some behaviors may be considered normal by locals, they are seen as rude by visitors. This phenomenon underscores how cultural differences can influence the perception of behavior in different parts of the United States.
