Henry Yanes Díaz, the driver of the Transtur bus involved in last Wednesday's mass accident in the municipality of Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba, is still reported to be in critical condition.

Several netizens have shared updates in response to concerns raised by a user in the Facebook group "Choferes de Ómnibus por Siempre" about the health status of the 36-year-old driver, who resides in El Cotorro, Havana.

On the day of the incident, authorities informed that Yanes Díaz was in critical condition and his life was at risk. Since then, no further updates have been provided.

A bus driver from La Lisa expressed gratitude for the concern shown towards the injured driver and mentioned that "his health condition is still very delicate, he remains in critical condition although there are slight signs of improvement, more precisely, vital signs. One of his legs was amputated and one of his arms is badly damaged, and he still requires assisted breathing."

This description matches that of other netizens who lamented that the young driver lost one of his legs.

“By the grace of God, he's still reported as critical but not life-threatening. He has been slowly improving, and we all have faith that he will survive this. All his colleagues are keeping track of his condition, and his wife sends us updates every time she receives one. Our fellow drivers in Santiago are also with them,” said a netizen who appears to be a coworker of Henry.

Accident Details and Victim Updates

The accident occurred on the National Highway, between Irijoa and Arroyo Blanco, injuring nine people, two of them seriously. One of the passengers, Ricardo Matos Reyes, 58, from Guantánamo City, is reported to be in serious condition but not life-threatening. The other seven injured suffered minor injuries.

A video revealing the moment of the driver's rescue shows six men, including some firefighters, carrying the injured driver on a stretcher and moving him to the road while someone shouted, "A car, a car!"

The main damage to the bus was at the front, explaining the severity of the driver's injuries. The vehicle was transporting 40 Cuban travelers from Havana to Santiago when it collided with a trailer from the Unión Eléctrica heading towards Contramaestre. After the crash, the bus crashed into a house.
