Alexander Otaola Hints at Running for Hialeah Mayor: "This Is Not Over"

Monday, September 2, 2024 by Matthew Diaz

The Cuban influencer and former Miami-Dade mayoral candidate, Alexander Otaola, is back in the spotlight. In his first episode of El Mañanero after his idyllic vacation in Hawaii, he insisted that he will continue to demand a vote recount to the very end. Regardless of the hypothetical recount's outcome, Otaola emphasized that his political journey is far from over and hinted at running for the mayoral seat in Hialeah.

"If I managed to get 12 percent in a first campaign, where none of us had ever been in a campaign before, well, if I run for Hialeah mayor, I think I can win, and I can move to Hialeah tomorrow," he pointed out.

To those who believe he used his campaign funds for the Miami-Dade mayoral race to finance his vacation, the influencer had a message: "That money will be used for other political campaigns I will run for. We are not done. I'm not someone who walks away quietly."

Otaola also warned of potential election fraud in the upcoming November elections. "Don't get complacent because in November, they will try the same tricks. Politics in Miami-Dade is a rat's nest. I won't stop until I fumigate that rat's nest. This is not over," he insisted.

Continued Doubts and Accusations

Regarding the past elections, where he secured third place with 12 percent of the votes, Otaola insisted that the results "need to be investigated." "I don't believe I have to accept anything until I am convinced that the result is accurate and I have every right to know the truth," he said, adding that he is not here to make friends but to "speak the truth."

Previously, on August 22, Otaola appeared on social media to explain to his followers how he felt after the electoral results and clarified that "nothing is lost yet." In a lengthy 50-minute video, he emphatically thanked his voters, donors, and those who believed it was possible to reach the Miami-Dade mayor's office. He stated that he remained strong, "with his head held high," and that "an election is about winning or losing."

"In an election, anything can happen. What we are demanding right now is transparency. We need to see that we lost without any kind of impediment," he said, referring to his request for a vote recount. "I am alleging that the exit polls do not reflect the final result at all," he said, expressing doubts and mentioning some individuals whose votes did not appear to be registered by the Department of Elections.

He denied, however, that the Department of Elections had dismissed a recount. He detailed that the official request had not yet been sent and that there is a ten-day window to do so.

Otaola stated that he would be willing to concede defeat once all avenues have been exhausted. He added that even if a recount does not make him mayor, it is not a defeat because a statistic has been achieved; 33,000 people voted for change, and they now stand as the opposition.

Alexander Otaola, known for his anti-communist stance and support of former President Donald Trump, finished a distant third in last Tuesday's elections, securing only 12% of the votes, well behind current Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who secured a second term with over 58% of the votes.

In recent hours, Otaola has been enjoying a vacation in Hawaii, a place where he has been relaxing since last Saturday after his third-place finish in the Miami-Dade mayoral elections. Otaola reemerged in an Instagram photo on a boat, wearing a colorful outfit, hat, sunglasses, barefoot, with the characteristic volcanic landscape of the Hawaiian islands in the background. The popular influencer and presenter received dozens of comments from his followers, many celebrating what several have called a "well-deserved break."

Others believe this is his natural state and that everything happens "for a reason," suggesting that becoming mayor would have required behavior that is not natural to him. It appears Otaola participated in an excursion to spot whales and dolphins. In another post, the influencer shared snapshots of his trip, perfectly set to the song "Hawái" by Maluma. On August 24, with an enigmatic selfie from an airplane, the controversial influencer hinted that he was going on vacation. Shortly after, he shared numerous images of his Hawaii vacation with his followers.
