Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás has stated that he doesn't want to be remembered solely for his achievements in sports but for his contributions to the freedom of his homeland. In a message shared on his social media, Ugás recalled returning to boxing eight years ago to compete against the best and become a champion, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, discipline, and perseverance.

"Even so, if I am only remembered as a good fighter, it means I haven't done a great job with the rest of my life," he stated on Facebook.

The pugilist noted that while his boxing career is nearing its end, his life is practically just beginning, and he has a lot of work ahead of him. "I want to continue inspiring many people in my community, provide jobs for them, and above all, pursue the most important mission of my life: being an activist, fighting for my country's freedom. I always pray to God to give me the chance to do something for my country. I feel that this is what I was born to do," he said.

Ugás is a well-known activist against Cuba's communist regime. He uses his social media platforms to support causes that his compatriots are involved in to promote a change in government in Cuba and to discuss how U.S. politics can help achieve that goal.

In his native country, he had a brief but fruitful career in amateur sports. He won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was the world champion in Mianyang 2005, in addition to earning medals at the Central American and Pan American Games.

In March 2010, he emigrated to the United States, where he continued his illustrious career with significant successes, including defeating the legendary Manny Pacquiao.
