Camagüey-born right-handed pitcher, José Ramón Rodríguez, has requested and received his release from the Cuban Baseball Federation. Pelota Cubana reported that the 31-year-old's decision might be linked to his intention to pursue an independent career in professional baseball.

Earlier in 2024, Rodríguez played with the Samanes de Aragua in the Venezuelan Major League Baseball (LMBP) and is now preparing to join the Caribes de Anzoátegui in the Venezuelan Winter League, a prestigious team in the South American country.

The experienced pitcher was initially considered for the Cuban pitching staff for the Premier 12 tournament, a possibility that is now off the table.

Rodríguez has had a notable career in Cuban baseball. Over 12 National Series, he accumulated a record of 50 wins and 43 losses, with an ERA of 3.66 across 774.1 innings pitched. Throughout his career, he allowed 315 earned runs, struck out 456 batters, and issued 251 walks.

His debut came in the 50th Series (2010-2011 season) under the guidance of coach Luis Ulacia. Rodríguez also represented Cuba in various national teams, including the squad that competed in the World Baseball Classic, where he pitched in two games.

In his first professional stint abroad with the Tigres de Chinandega in Nicaragua, Rodríguez performed well, posting a 4.66 ERA and a 1-0 record. However, an injury forced him to return to Cuba for medical treatment.

In his most recent appearance in the 63rd National Series, the Camagüey-native recorded a 5-3 balance with a 2.57 ERA, solidifying his status as one of the most consistent pitchers in the tournament.
