The Council of Administration in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality has fined a resident of Vedado for social misconduct related to dumping trash on public streets.
According to the council's official Facebook page, the incident occurred at 27th Street, number 603, between C and D, just minutes after workers from the Aurora hygiene company had completed cleaning the area.
Yoanky Utra González, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, reported the incident on his profile, emphasizing the lack of civic values of the offenders. He noted in the post that the effort to maintain the area's cleanliness was disregarded. Municipal inspectors arrived promptly to verify the infraction and imposed the corresponding penalties under the Zero Tolerance policy for social misconduct.
Ironically, the Cuban regime itself has the island's streets flooded with trash, and raising one's voice about it can have serious consequences. Due to the lack of resources and the inefficiency of the Havana government in collecting solid waste that overwhelms the capital's streets, a private company will be responsible for improving trash collection in some municipalities of that province.
In the case of Cerro, the Council of Administration has partnered with the micro, medium, and small enterprise (Mipyme) Talleres Delis to improve community hygiene, reported the state-run Canal Habana.
In April, a study by Cuba Siglo 21 revealed that the regime fails to collect the equivalent of three Olympic-sized swimming pools of trash each day in Havana, making the capital a "critical hotspot for health insecurity." Streetside dumps encourage the proliferation of rats, mosquitoes, dengue, Oropouche virus, and leptospirosis, and they can cause urban fires due to methane gas production.
