A high school eighth-grader from a school in the Palma Soriano municipality, Santiago de Cuba, was injured this Friday by another student with a scalpel, sustaining wounds to the head and an arm, according to journalist Yosmany Mayeta who cited a family neighbor as the source.

The woman specified that the injured boy studies at Luis Augusto Turcios Lima Basic Secondary School and that his father works in the Special Troops of the province.

The source recounted that the boy had an issue during morning Physical Education with the student who later attacked him.

"Around twelve noon, as he was heading to school and had just left his grandfather's house, the other boy was waiting for him at the corner where he cut him with a scalpel on the head, behind the ear, and on the arm," the neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added.

The woman mentioned that the child, who judging by his grade is likely 13 or 14 years old, was taken to a health clinic where his wounds were stitched, and even the school principal visited him.

"At the moment, I don't have photos or the details of the injured student, but I am still seeking precise details of this unfortunate incident," Mayeta explained, noting that this is not the first violent event reported in Santiago de Cuba since the school year began on September 2.

Mayeta added that last Sunday, when students entered the EIDE Captain Orestes Acosta, another assault occurred where a student from the sports school received multiple stab wounds.
