The family of Adrián García, a 24-year-old Cuban who is in a coma after being struck by lightning at a beach in Naples, on Florida's west coast, remains hopeful for his recovery. "Your family won't give up, we are here just like you liked it, you will never be alone. So get up, you can do it," reads a video shared on TikTok by Diosmary Arencibia, one of the individuals who was with Adrián in the water when the lightning struck three family members.
The video shows the young man intubated while two relatives stand by his side listening to reggaeton. The comment section of the post is filled with well-wishes for Adrián's speedy recovery and encouragement for his family to keep fighting for his comeback.
In recent months, at least two other Cuban women who suffered severe brain injuries managed to come out of a coma: one is Arianna Hernández from Tampa, and the other is Daymi Furcade, a resident of Texas.
Details of the Incident
The fateful event that altered Adrián García's life occurred on August 31 in Naples, within Collier County. That day, after a brief rain shower, a group of people entered the sea. According to Diosmary Arencibia's previous account, there were no thunderclaps, and the sun was shining.
The group was very close together in the water when the lightning unexpectedly struck. The electric discharge hit three people, with Adrián being the most affected. The other two individuals are out of danger. The dramatic rescue scenes were captured by content creator Reyvil García, who described the moment as one of "panic". García noted that it had rained briefly before the incident, but the sky was clear at the time it happened. There were no warnings of imminent danger.
He added that upon witnessing the event, people hurried out of the water, some rushing to get dressed and leave the area as quickly as possible.
Recently, another Cuban family residing in West Park, Broward County, experienced moments of distress when lightning struck their house. In that case, the electric discharge severely damaged a wall near a child's crib.
