The Cuban community of animal protectors has issued an urgent call to help Hilda, a tireless cat rescuer in Alamar, Havana, who is currently facing severe hardship.

According to a Facebook post by Verónica Vega, Hilda is unwell and lacks food for her more than 50 cats. Additionally, she has been a victim of multiple thefts due to her visual impairment, worsening her already dire situation.

Vega explained that Hilda does not have access to a mobile phone, as it was stolen, making communication with her even more challenging. Despite her health issues, Hilda continues to dedicate her life to caring for abandoned animals, Vega pointed out.

Elizabeth Marela Cardoso Pérez, another animal advocate, highlighted in the Facebook group "Somos tu Voz" that although Hilda is not active on social media nor publicly asking for help, her work is monumental. She maintains a shelter in her home, housing cats of all sizes and health conditions without neglecting them for a moment.

"With serious health problems, she never leaves an animal abandoned; her sacrifice and dedication are constant," Cardoso Pérez emphasized. Animal welfare pages are filled with requests for help, but those familiar with Hilda's situation note that her case is especially urgent and just. Any form of contribution, whether food or monetary resources, is greatly appreciated.

"She needs any help she can get, even if she doesn't ask for it publicly; she is very grateful for all types of contributions," Cardoso Pérez reiterated.

Animal protectors have provided two bank account numbers for those who wish to help Hilda with donations: CUP 9206 9598 7703 7093 and USD 9225 9598 7517 5272.

Another rescuer, Odalis León, has also been aiding animals and recently asked for support on Facebook to continue her work in protecting pets. "If you wish to collaborate to keep transforming the lives of stray animals, you can contact 58081476," the activist urged, sharing the story of Campi, a dog who arrived in very poor condition at the "Sole de Esperanza" shelter and now shows a radical positive change.

In July, an activist requested help for a shelter in Cárdenas, Matanzas, which houses 80 dogs and cats, many with motor and other disabilities. This place represents the last hope for these animals, who would not survive on the streets and are rarely adopted. A similar situation was reported at another shelter in Havana, run by an elderly couple who lacked the resources to feed the dogs they were protecting.

In August, an animal advocate sought support from those willing to help raise $800 to buy a house in the countryside and establish a dog shelter in Güines, a municipality in the province of Mayabeque, Cuba.
