Cuban Woman in Miami Chooses RV Living to Save for Home Purchase: "This Could Be an Efficiency in the Future"

Wednesday, September 11, 2024 by Daniel Colon

A Cuban woman in Miami, known as @yulynunez_mentora2024 on TikTok, has shared her experience of living in an RV (recreational vehicle) as a way to avoid high rents and save for the future in the Sunshine City. In her videos, she explains that she has been living in a trailer for the past three months with her family to cut expenses and save money with the goal of buying a house in the coming years.

"I live in Miami, and rent here is very expensive. I don't want to pay rent, so we live in an RV resort, where we only pay for the space and electricity," Yuly says. She views this decision as a form of financial intelligence, explaining that instead of spending large sums on rent, the money they save is being put towards gathering the capital needed to purchase their own home in the future. "Maybe in 2 or 5 years, I can buy my house," she adds hopefully.

Comfortable Living in an RV Resort

Far from feeling like a sacrifice, life in the RV resort is comfortable for the Cuban woman, who describes it as similar to a campground or even a "cabin hotel." "We have common areas for fun, like picnic spots, barbecue areas, a pool, jacuzzi, game areas, and even mini-golf," she describes. She also mentions that the place has a store for basic needs and boasts a high level of cleanliness and security, surrounded by green areas.

For her, this is a phase of "sacrifice" in the sense of living more economically, but she clarifies that it doesn't feel like a real sacrifice because they enjoy the amenities of the place. "What we were paying in rent, we cut in half, and we only pay for the space and electricity. This works for those who buy their RV in cash," she notes, emphasizing that this alternative allows them to live much more affordably than in an apartment in Miami. "You will always pay at least half of what you pay for an apartment in Miami," she comments.

Additionally, the Cuban woman highlights that this lifestyle allows her to plan her future with more certainty, stating that she doesn't want to "rent for 10 or 20 years and then realize she has nothing of her own." She recalls that she already had her own house in Cuba, so now she is saving to fulfill that dream again in Miami. "I am living economically to have a better future," she concludes.

She also sees buying an RV as an investment for the future, as after buying her house, she can rent it out. "In the future, this could be an efficiency that you can rent out for a thousand dollars a month. It's not about living better; it's about learning to live. I am living economically to have a better future. There's no other way in Miami to save money honestly to buy a house," this Cuban woman says.
