Yunior Leyva Céspedes, a 27-year-old Cuban resident of the United States, was among those killed in a traffic accident early Saturday morning on Interstate 595 near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Leyva Céspedes was traveling with two other passengers, who also perished in the crash. He and another woman, aged 24, who has not been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene. The other person, a 19-year-old woman, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where she died around 5:00 a.m.
Florida Highway Patrol investigators told News Miami that a blue BMW AG was traveling eastbound on I-595, just west of the airport, when the driver, a 63-year-old man, failed to notice a slower-moving Hyundai Accent. This caused the front of the BMW to collide with the Hyundai.
A friend of the young man, named Ahmed Bringas, posted a short tribute video on Facebook mourning the death of Yunior Leyva.
In recent months, several Cuban families have been mourning the loss of loved ones due to traffic accidents in the United States. Last June, a Cuban woman sought help to repatriate the remains of her husband, Yordani Viamontes Tamayo, who died on June 18th in a car accident in the U.S.
The same fate befell three members of a Cuban family residing in Florida who died in a traffic accident in Boynton Beach. Only the youngest child survived. Meanwhile, another Cuban man died in the U.S. while driving his truck.
