Cuban boxer Erislandy Lara delivered a knockout punch this Saturday, defeating American fighter Danny Garcia in the ninth round to successfully defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight title.

In the co-main event of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez versus Edgar Berlanga fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lara secured his fourth consecutive victory, reaffirming his position among the sport's elite despite being 41 years old.

The bout failed to captivate the audience, with many attendees booing at various points. Nevertheless, "The American Dream" landed powerful blows in the ninth round, forcing Garcia to "throw in the towel."

It's worth noting that Garcia, of Latin roots, had been inactive for two years and appeared out of rhythm, far from the form that once ranked him among the top boxers in the world.

With this win, Lara now boasts 31 victories, three losses, and 19 knockouts, while "Swift" Garcia holds a record of 35 wins, four losses, and 21 knockouts, according to BoxRec.

In the night's main event, "Canelo" Alvarez (62-2-2) defeated Berlanga (22-1) on the scorecards (117-110, 118-109, and 118-109) to retain his WBC, WBO, WBA, and The Ring titles.
