Thursday, September 19, 2024 by Emma Garcia

A Cuban woman residing in Canada has shared on TikTok the things she hasn't experienced since leaving Cuba. The young woman, who goes by @yetsyyu on the platform, highlighted these differences in a video she posted. At the top of her list is the most popular cleaning method on the island, where it's customary to pour water on the floor to clean it. "I can't do that here, look at the floor," she says, showing the floor of her house.

The second experience she mentions is the endless lines in Cuba. "In Cuba, you queue for everything, even to buy bread. And I'm not talking about hours, but days," she asserts. This phenomenon is well-known among Cubans, who have to wait for long periods to access basic goods.

Lastly, she recalls running to catch the bus in Cuba. "It was a serious problem there. Here, buses are punctual," she explains, appreciating the efficiency of the transportation system in Canada compared to Cuba.

Other Cubans added their own experiences in the comments about the things they stopped experiencing upon arriving in Canada. "Coffee and gossip, none of that here," one commented. "In Cuba, the neighbor stops by, and you give her a cup of coffee early in the morning. Here, you don't even know your neighbor," another added. "Many pros, many cons as well. I miss my beautiful Cuba, but we have to move forward," another remarked.
