Thief Trapped in Corvette in Miami Pleads for Owner's Help

Thursday, September 19, 2024 by Daniel Colon

The owner of a Corvette in Miami Beach experienced an unusual moment when he discovered a man trapped inside his car, pleading for help to get out.

"Buddy, this isn't your car, it's mine," said Julio Solano, the car's owner, to Ravesh Rabindranauth, 33, when he found him inside his vehicle. "Can I get out?" Rabindranauth asked while Solano recorded the encounter on his cell phone. "No, you can't. We're calling the police," Solano replied.

Solano explained to Local 10 that he was surprised when he returned to his car after having breakfast on Monday morning and found Rabindranauth sitting inside, asking for help.

Incident Location and Arrest

The incident occurred in a parking lot at the intersection of Washington Avenue and 16th Street in Miami Beach. Local police arrived at the scene and arrested Rabindranauth, who now faces charges of theft.

Julio Solano believes that although Rabindranauth managed to get into the vehicle, he couldn't start it or escape due to the car's security system. "The electrical systems don’t work without the keys, and luckily, he didn’t realize there was a manual door release lever under the seat," Solano explained.

The authorities indicated that Solano notified the owner of Premiere Auto Miami 1, a company that rents exotic cars and stores vehicles in that garage. Officers reported that Rabindranauth was informed of his rights and agreed to speak with them. A background check showed no criminal records or active warrants against him.

Rabindranauth is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) with a bail set at $2,500 for the charge of stealing an unoccupied vehicle.
