Cuban Man Mocks Tiny Government-Issued Bread: "Smaller Than a Clothespin"

Friday, September 20, 2024 by Alexander Flores

A Cuban citizen has taken to social media to highlight the laughably small size of the bread being sold by the government following a recent decision to reduce both its weight and price. The user, identified as @walfri2hm on TikTok, shared a short video comparing a government-distributed pan bon to a clothespin, revealing that the clothespin was nearly twice the size of the bread.

"This is what the new bread looks like in Cuba after the reduction in grams," the user noted in his post. He added, "In the video, they look bigger than they actually are," while showing the bread placed on a small coffee cup to provide another perspective on its minuscule size.

To conclude, he tapped what appeared to be a kitchen countertop to show that, besides being small, the bread was also hard as a rock, thus highlighting its poor quality.

Government's Response and Ongoing Issues

The government's decision to reduce the size and price of rationed bread has sparked a wave of criticism, with many pointing out that the bread does not meet the established weight guidelines. In response, the government announced inspections of bakeries to ensure that bread quality improves and that each loaf weighs the mandated 60 grams.

However, the production of bread in Cuba faces more pressing challenges, such as a lack of transportation for distribution to local stores and frequent power outages. These issues have led to extreme measures, including the transport of bread trays through the streets.
