Friday, September 20, 2024 by Elizabeth Alvarado

Miami police are seeking public assistance to locate a couple caught on camera stealing a wallet from a restaurant patron in South Miami on September 14.

"The victim and a friend went to have breakfast at a restaurant in South Miami around 10 a.m. They sat at one of the tables. Shortly after, another couple entered and sat next to them. The video shows the man moving the table closer to the victims," explained Fernando Bosch, spokesperson for the South Miami police, in statements to Telemundo 51.

The footage reveals that the man adjusted the table to get closer to the victim, positioning himself perfectly for the theft. After taking the wallet, he placed it under the menu, slipped it into his pocket, went to the bathroom, and upon returning, sat for a moment before the couple left the establishment.

Thieves Caught on Camera at Brickell City Center

About 20 minutes after the theft, the couple was captured on camera at Brickell City Center, attempting to use the stolen credit cards at various stores. Authorities have reported that the investigation "revealed that there were six people in the group trying to use the credit card. They managed to use one of the cards, charging $2,900."

Officials are now working to identify the individuals, who they suspect may be responsible for other similar thefts. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers hotline.
