Bus Overturns on Havana's Vía Blanca

Friday, September 20, 2024 by Albert Rivera

An omnibus from the state-owned company Transmetro overturned this Friday on Havana's Vía Blanca. Internet user Raudel Trimiño, a member of the Facebook group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES por más experiencia y menos víctimas!", revealed that the incident occurred at the start of the Alamar ascent.

"Right next to the new pole they installed, which broke due to another accident in the same spot just two weeks ago," he noted. Photos and a video shared by another witness show that the bus veered completely off the road and ended up overturned on its side in the grass.

Sidney Banzo, who identified himself as the driver's nephew, assured that the driver is in good health and only sustained minor injuries. He clarified that the driver was not speeding, but the wet pavement caused the vehicle to skid off the road.

Other members of the group agreed that accidents are frequent in that area. "Folks, there's something about that stretch that every time it rains, someone ends up in the ditch!" commented an audio technician.

Another Incident in July

In mid-July, another accident occurred on Vía Blanca, where an old Fiat 1970 OM 306 Gran Luce bus collided with a Lada. According to witnesses, it was the bus that veered into the opposite lane and ended up crashing into the Lada. The incident happened at the turn from Calzada de Güines to Vía Blanca, and none of the vehicle occupants suffered serious injuries.
