Help Sought for Child in Need of Liver Transplant in Cuba

Sunday, September 22, 2024 by Hannah Aguilar

Cuban activist Diasniurka Salcedo is calling for assistance for a young boy in Cuba who is in urgent need of a liver transplant. The child, Lucian Roger Alba González, is two years old and weighs only eight kilograms due to his severe health conditions.

“He's spent his entire life in the hospital,” Diasniurka shared on her Facebook page. Lucian suffers from chronic malnutrition, thymic hypoplasia (an underdeveloped thymus gland in the chest), and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis (a bile flow disorder causing yellowing of the skin).

According to the activist, Lucian requires numerous medications to stabilize his condition as he awaits surgery. These include liquid Benadryl (diphenhydramine), calamine lotion, and hydrocortisone cream.

Urgent Need for Medical Supplies and Financial Support

“Please help with whatever you can. He is currently at the Santa Clara Children's Hospital, and his mother lacks the funds to take him to Havana. Anyone willing to help can contact his mother, Elizabeth González, directly at +53 51381333,” Diasniurka detailed.

Diasniurka Salcedo arrived in the United States last March, two months after leaving Cuba when the regime threatened her with imprisonment. From Miami, she continues to support those in need in her homeland.

Previous Successful Campaigns

She was instrumental in the case of Amanda Lemus Ortiz, another two-year-old who, like Lucian Roger, required a liver transplant. Amanda had been neglected by the Cuban healthcare system. Thanks to a campaign led by activist Lara Crofs and the solidarity of Cubans worldwide, Amanda was successfully operated on in Spain and is now a happy child.
