A house listed for sale at $120,000 in Playa, Havana, has sparked a flurry of comments on social media, with one user sarcastically asking whether the property is in Cuba or Florida. Manuela Mejías Hernández posted about the sale in the Facebook group “Venta de Casas y Apartamentos en La Habana,” stating that the home is located in the residential area of Ampliación de Almendares.

The property is a two-story independent house, built in 1950 with brick walls and reinforced concrete floors, boasting mixed granite and tile flooring. According to the listing, the ground floor features a garden, garage, living room, kitchen, dining room, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, patios, and covered terraces. The upper floor includes two more bedrooms, a bathroom, and an uncovered balcony, along with amenities such as gas service, 110 and 220 voltage, three split air conditioning units, a water heater, cistern, and a motor.

Despite the home's features and location, many users in the comments section agreed that the price is excessively high. Ivonet Marrero Alex remarked, “With that money, 12 families could visit the volcanoes or the Christ Redeemer statue, it makes no difference.” Iris Castillo added, “Obviously, they missed a zero or the last neuron they had left with the parole process.”

Reactions to the High Price

Roberto Treto pointed out, “Too expensive for what you’re offering. With that amount, I could buy four houses in Havana, and better ones at that. Check the networks to get at least an idea.” Pedro Reinoso joked, “Folks, these blackouts are making people delirious.” Alky Banos humorously asked, “Is that in Florida?”

Property prices in Cuba often stir controversy on social media, reflecting the ongoing migration crisis. Recently, two mansions in Havana were listed for sale at prices seemingly targeted at a very select group of buyers. These properties, located in the municipalities of Plaza de la Revolución and Playa, are being offered for $800,000 and $600,000, respectively.

Real Estate Amid Economic Hardship

Amid the current economic hardships faced by Cubans, several ground-floor properties in El Vedado, Havana, ideal for businesses, were recently listed for sale. The prices of these “excellent opportunities” were around $22,000 to $30,000, in a country where the average salary is about 4,000 pesos, roughly $20 according to the informal currency market.
