Cuban TikToker Karen Defends Island Women Against Criticism

Monday, September 23, 2024 by Grace Ramos

The Cuban TikToker @elixir_karen, who currently resides in Madrid, has stirred up social media after responding to a derogatory comment labeling Cuban women as "money-hungry." In her video, she passionately refutes this claim, delivering a message that has resonated with many viewers: "Money-hungry? Are we Cuban women supposed to be hungry for poverty? We've experienced enough misery in the country we were born in. I'm not settling for crap."

Karen doesn't stop there. She continues to champion Cuban women, describing them as fighters who work hard to improve their lives. "We Cuban women are fighters and can handle anything. Why should I be with a man who is a burden and contributes nothing? No way, if I'm fabulous, I can provide for myself," she asserts, rejecting the notion of relying on someone who doesn't add value to her life.

She wraps up her message by saying, "Yes, we are money-hungry because we fight, work, study, and strive for it. We expect nothing less." Adding a touch of humor, she mocks the initial comment before breaking into a dance to Oniel Bebeshito's "La Batidora," a popular song among Cuban women on social media.

The response from users was swift and positive, with many praising Karen's stance: "Beautiful, I loved your response"; "Proud to be Cuban, that's how it is. Greetings from a Cuban in Spain, we can handle anything"; "All Cuban women are warriors, very fighters, and above all, very independent"; "Excellent response"; "It needed to be said"; "That's right, we Cuban women are fighters. We don't need men to get ahead. Blessings, fellow Cuban," they commented.

Some comments even expressed frustration over the stereotype of Cuban women: "I really want to understand what the issue is with us Cuban women, God bless them," while another user sarcastically added, "With much pride." Karen, in response, thanked many users with comments like "Thank you, that's right, blessings" and "Sometimes you have to make it clear the level of Cuban women."
