Dayexis Alles, a Cuban content creator residing in the United States, took to TikTok to defend her choice to return to Cuba to see her family, despite the backlash and opinions she has received about her upcoming trip to the island.

"In a few days, I plan to visit my country, and many people judge me or ask why I'm going to Cuba," she mentioned, referring to the messages from some users. In her video, @dayexis3 clarified that her primary motivation for going back to the island was her family, particularly her mother. "I'm going to Cuba because a large part of my family is there, including my mom, and as long as I'm alive and able, I will continue to visit her," she asserted.

Dayexis also touched upon her mother's pain of not being able to be close to her daughters and grandchildren: "My mother suffers every day because she can't be with her daughters and watch her grandchildren grow up."

Reflections on the Importance of Family

Throughout the video, Dayexis reflected on what Cuba means to her. Despite the negative comments regarding her decision, she emphasized that she wouldn't let others' opinions influence her actions: "I've learned to be happy myself and not let people's opinions affect me."

Her stance garnered support in the comments, where several users expressed their agreement with her sentiments, also underscoring the importance of helping family members left in Cuba: "I completely agree with you because when you have family in Cuba, you have to help"; "The day I can, I will do the same, it hurts every day not to be able to go"; "I think just like you," they wrote.

Ongoing Debate Among the Cuban Diaspora

This type of debate is not new on social media, where many Cubans living abroad find themselves in similar discussions when they decide to visit their loved ones or support them financially.

Recently, another Cuban content creator defended his decision to support his family in Cuba, arguing that his assistance was not meant to sustain any system but to ensure the well-being of his loved ones.
