Tuesday, September 24, 2024 by Olivia Torres

A heated exchange over a reggaeton song escalated into a deadly shooting at a Mexican restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, early Monday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 1:26 a.m. when police officers were dispatched to Antojitos Mexicanos, located at 3943 Davie Boulevard and State Road 7 in Broward County, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered a man who had been fatally shot by an assailant who then fled the scene.

The victim was identified as Socorro Camacho, a 54-year-old Mexican national who was a regular patron of the establishment. Preliminary police investigations indicated that a verbal altercation between Camacho and another man escalated until the confrontation ended in gunfire, ultimately claiming Camacho's life, according to local media reports.

A Fight Over Music Turns Deadly

Eyewitnesses reported to police that the argument began when Camacho angrily confronted the suspect for playing a reggaeton song on the restaurant's jukebox, accusing him of not being truly Mexican, despite both men being from Mexico. During the heated exchange, Camacho produced a firearm, prompting the other man to draw his own weapon and fire multiple shots before escaping.

Family and Friends Mourn the Loss

Julián Camacho, the victim's brother, rushed to the scene early Monday after receiving a call from Fort Lauderdale police notifying him of his sibling's death. "My brother is gone now, but authorities need to take action because none of these bars have security checking for weapons," Julián told AmericaTeVe.

Francisco Ríos, a friend of the victim, expressed his sorrow: "It's hard to believe this happened over a song. It's just wrong. They started fighting over a song, pulled out guns, and it cost him his life. No one saw this coming, it's so sad."

Ríos, who had known Socorro for 18 years, added, "He was a good friend and comrade. He always gave me work, I worked for him. I hope justice is served and they find the person responsible for killing him."

As of now, authorities have not identified the suspect and are continuing their investigation to locate the perpetrator.
