Power Outage Strikes El Vedado Due to Frightening Short Circuit

Thursday, September 26, 2024 by Oscar Fernandez

A frightening short circuit early this morning resulted in a power outage affecting part of El Vedado in Havana.

Pedro Luis García, the administrator of the Facebook group "El Vedado Today," disclosed that since 1:00 am, the streetlights and homes located on 11th Street between E and F have been without electricity.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, strong winds continued to batter the area at 9:30 am, accompanied by intermittent rain showers. "The power company has been notified, but the weather needs to improve," García stated.

According to García, the issue stems from the heavily wooded corner of 11th Street and E. The municipal pruning company is responsible for maintaining the area, but "they aren't doing their job properly."

"As of 9:34 am, the wind gusts are still noticeable. The electricity company's crew will be delayed due to the weather conditions. Only this part of El Vedado has been reported to the company. It’s not affecting the entire neighborhood," he clarified.
