Due to heavy rains brought by Hurricane Helene, the Cuyaguateje River has overflowed, leaving various areas in Pinar del Río submerged as of Thursday. Yamile Ramos Cordero, the first secretary of the Party in the province, posted photos on Facebook showing the river's water levels in the municipality of Guane.

On Wednesday, Helene had already caused initial flooding in the region, with reports of coastal flooding, river overflow, and reservoir spillover. In Los Palacios, water from the "La Juventud" dam covered the stretch of road leading to San Diego de los Baños near Villa Amistad.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 17 out of 24 reservoirs in the province were spilling over, with an overall capacity usage of 93%. In Puerta de Golpe, a popular council area of Consolación del Sur, the El Palenque road became impassable due to the heavy rains.
