Former Cuban spy Gerardo Hernández Nordelo extended his birthday wishes to singer Arnaldo Rodríguez, lauding him as a "talented patriot." The coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) took to Twitter to share a photo of the two together, along with a congratulatory message to the musician.
"Today is the birthday of this talented patriot, to whom his large CDR family extends many happy returns," Hernández wrote.
Arnaldo Rodríguez is a staunch supporter of the Castro regime, which has earned him various accolades. It is no surprise that he is a close friend of Gerardo, whom he publicly refers to as his brother. Rodríguez often performs with his band, El Talismán, at events organized by the former leader of the failed Wasp Network.
In 2022, the singer-songwriter posted on Twitter, "Brother Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, you have a wonderful family. As the poet-singer says, 'only love begets wonder,'" sharing a photo of himself with the spy, his wife, and their children.
On his part, Gerardo has praised Arnaldo, describing him as an artist "increasingly committed to his people." Hernández enjoys maintaining close relationships with artists who admire the government.
Admiration for Government-Supporting Artists
In June, Hernández expressed his admiration for singer and sonero Cándido Fabré, who he believes "shows no fear." His comments came shortly after Fabré, known for his fervent support of the regime and Fidel Castro's ideals, caused controversy with his remarks about Cuba's power outages.
